How CEREC® One-Visit Crowns Work
Crowns are thin coverings that completely surround a tooth that has experienced severe decay or damage. They can be used to restore teeth affected by the following issues.
- Severe decay
- Broken teeth
- Stabilizing a tooth after root canal
- Single tooth replacement
- Serious cosmetic problems like staining, shape issues and misalignments
To treat your tooth with a one-visit crown, your dentist will evaluate the extent of the damage and prepare the tooth to receive its dental crown. Once a small amount of dental enamel has been removed to make room for the new device, your dentist will take highly detailed digital impressions of your tooth and the surrounding oral structures. These digital impressions make treatment planning more informed than ever before -- leading to a better-fitting dental crown overall.
After the dentist has finalized the plans for your CEREC® one-visit crown, the data will be automatically sent to the technology’s milling unit, which will then make the crown from a single block of fine ceramic. This process takes less than an hour. Once it’s complete, your dentist will inspect the crown to make sure it looks and fits just like it should, and your new restoration is placed in the very same appointment. With traditional crowns, patients had to endure a temporary replacement as they waited weeks for their permanent one to come in -- but CEREC® in Vienna VA eliminates this bothersome middle step! That’s efficiency combined with quality results that all of our patients can appreciate.
Caring for your CEREC® Crown
Following the procedure for your CEREC® crown, you may experience some discomfort as your mouth gets used to its new device. Side effects should be minimal and brief. To keep your new crown and surrounding teeth healthy, you should continue to maintain excellent dental hygiene habits, including brushing your teeth for two minutes, twice a day and flossing daily. When you floss, make sure to place extra emphasis on the area at the base of the crown to remove any food particles or plaque buildup. With proper care, your CEREC® crown may last longer than possible with traditional crowns.
CEREC® One-Visit Root Canals
CEREC® technology can actually improve a patient’s treatment experience in other avenues beyond regular restoration, including root canal therapy. When a tooth becomes severely infected to the point that the inner pulp chamber and root canals become infected, this procedure can potentially rescue the tooth from needing to be extracted, allowing patients to maintain their natural smile.
Root canal therapy typically requires two appointments – one where our specialist removes the decay and seals the tooth, and another where a custom dental crown is placed to restore the tooth’s full structure and strength. However, CEREC® has simplified this treatment down to a single visit by allowing us to design, craft, and place your brand-new crown quickly without sacrificing any of the quality you deserve.
