Dental Crowns and Bridges
Have you ever stopped to think about all the work your teeth do for you? We tend to take “tooth performance” for granted, but really we shouldn't. Between chewing and biting and the occasional nervous grinding and clenching, teeth go through a lot on any given day. It’s no wonder then that as time marches on our teeth can become worn or weakened. Or even worse, some of us may even lose teeth. According to the American College of Prosthodontists, nearly 178 million people in the U.S. are missing at least one tooth. Damage to teeth as well as tooth loss are very real concerns for us as dentists. Fortunately, there are solutions. At Avanti Dentistry, your Tysons dentist, we offer dental crowns and dental bridges to protect damaged teeth and replace missing teeth.
A dental crown is also called a cap, because it completely encapsulates a tooth. This tooth restoration can be ideal for repairing a tooth that has been compromised by extensive tooth decay, traumatic injury, a deep crack or a break. We also use crowns at the finish of root canal therapy to protect the tooth from further infection or damage.
At Avanti Dentistry, we want to honor your time and provide you with the best quality dental crown. With this in mind, our office now uses the CEREC system that allows us to design, build and place a dental crown in just one visit. Traditional dental crowns used to necessitate two appointments with the Tysons dentist—the first to prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown and the second to finish the procedure with a permanent crown. With CEREC, the digital camera, 3D CAD/CAM software and the milling unit condense the process to just a couple of hours.
Crowns can be stand-alone tooth restorations or they can be used along with dental bridges to replace missing teeth. Just as a bridge spans a river, a dental bridge spans the gap in your smile. The false teeth that make up the bridge are attached to dental crowns. This single oral device is held firmly in place when the crowns are mounted on top of healthy teeth that abut the gap. If these teeth are not strong enough to support crowns, then we can remove them and use dental implants instead.
Dental bridges are ideal for replacing one tooth or several teeth in a row. Proper oral hygiene is essential to ensure the longevity of your crown and bridge and to maintain your best oral health.
