A perfectly aligned smile may seem out of reach if you’re troubled by crooked or misaligned teeth. Not so with Invisalign! Invisalign orthodontics can give you the smile of your dreams! Invisalign straightens crooked teeth discreetly using clear plastic aligners that are barely noticeable on your teeth. Our doctors offer Invisalign treatment for teens and adults at Avanti Dentistry in Tysons, Virginia.
Invisalign offers an alternative to wearing uncomfortable brackets and wires to straighten teeth. For Invisalign to succeed, however, patients must commit fully to their treatment. After assessing the problems that need to be addressed, your doctor will outline a treatment plan and have a series of aligners custom-made for your use. Your commitment to follow through with that plan will determine the success of your procedure. These tips can help you get great results from your Invisalign treatment:
Can I leave Invisalign out for a few hours? Not really. Not if you want to reach your smile goals! The aligners will only straighten your teeth when worn. For best results, it is recommended that you wear them for at least 22 hours a day, taking them out only for eating and brushing your teeth.
To continue the teeth straightening process, you’ll change your aligners to the next set in your series every two weeks. It will hinder your progress if you forget or neglect to change your aligners on time.
We recommend cleaning your aligners daily using gentle, liquid soap and warm water to keep them in good shape. Clean aligners will be more effective (and discreet).
Invisalign aligners fit snugly over your teeth to work effectively. This snugness, however, traps germs and bacteria in your teeth and gums and keeps saliva from washing away food particles and debris. To compensate, you’ll need to brush and floss more often, preferably after every meal. This helps prevent plaque buildup and minimizes your risk of cavities.
If you have an accident and break an aligner, you can use your old ones until a new one can be made. This keeps your teeth from regressing to their former position and slowing down your progress.
When not in use, store your aligners in a safe, clean container so they don’t get lost or misplaced. Losing or misplacing aligners can set you back in your treatment.
We’ll set appointments every 4 to 6 weeks to monitor your progress. It’s important to keep these appointments so we can ensure your treatment is progressing as it should.
